Elliana & Dion

You will see these children pop up from time to time in my blog and website as their mum is a very dear friend of mine. These shots were taken in a playground at Ellie’s 5th birthday. There was a shade sail overhead and the play equipment was throwing terrible colour casts over everything. We had a great time, not even the jumping castle collapsing on the kids could completely wreck the day.  I had to work hard to get Dion to sit still long enough to capture a shot – but I whispered to him that his mummy would love to have a photo of his gorgeous face and curls, and he obliged. Anything for mummy!

J-Studios – Jessie Broome

Jessie Broome from J-Studios asked me to rework her existing logo. Jessie is the President of the Australian Community of Child Photogaphers which whom I volunteer as a retoucher and designer.

It took us a while to find the perfect ‘j’ but it was worth it in the end! She then had the opportunity to advertise in a specialist magazine and this is the advert we developed for that. The use of the orange in her logo and branding makes it easy to cut through the other advertising and really stand out. The look is a mix of funky modern with a touch of retro – which I thinks the brand perfectly!

Krisen & Sally

My cousin Krisen and his gorgeous wife Sally agreed to come over for a playdate. In our house, grown up playdates involve me asking my friends to dress up and pose for me while I issue endless instructions. We did have a heap of fun, at one stage one of the girls got out her camera and ‘had a go’ as well.

An absolutely striking couple – wouldn’t you agree?

Aaron

Simone and Martin were given a gift voucher for Aaron’’s Christening. It took us a while to nail down a time that worked for us all, but when we did the results were well worth it. Aaron has the most amazingly soft, chubby, baby cheeks and was a delight to photograph!

At the park

Today we loaded the bikes in the car and met one of my old friends Cris and her cherubic daughter Izel at the Centennial Park kids bike track. In a stroke of sheer genius, Cris brought along a bubble machine (aka kid magnet) and at one stage childen from all around us clustered around the machine. My two had a great time riding their bikes, getting dirty and playing hard on all the fun equipment.

Grow Photography by Kris Leigh

I had the distinct pleasure of being asked to do Kris Leigh’s new business logo for her new business “Grow Photography“. I’ve worked with Kris in the past on a small project, but this was much bigger and more complex.

Kris was very clear and concise in her brief. She knew she wanted a row of faces above her name. After attempting to do it on the computer a few times I just wasn;t getting the fluidity of line I was looking for. So after almost ten years of not drawing seriously – I went out and bought an artists sketchbook and a fineliner and strated drawing.

From the beginning the ‘Grow Kids’ had personalities of their own. I love their sweet faces and I think by looking at each you could imagine what they might be saying to each other. I think the appeal in this logo is that everyone can identify with at least once of the kids, whether they see themselves or their children in the characters. Its unusual and thus memorable.

OMG Netra, they are my little “Grow Kids”. It’s funny, when I’d actually seen this logo in my head, I’d seen the colours of the faces and the faces all in a row above Grow Photography but I never had any preconceived idea’s of what the actual faces looked like. You have just brought them to life perfectly and you are right, they each have their own little character. You’ve done an awesome job, I love them! I think they’re perfect, modern, whimsy and full of childhood fun :-) Yay, I’m so excited!

Thank you so, so much Netra! You have no idea how much I have adored working with you on this! You’ve just made the whole process so easy and have seemed to just read my mind. You are completely talented and simply brilliant :-)

Congrats on the new venture Kris – I’m sure it will do fabulously.

Allegra

I just LOVED this gorgeous little girl’s name – Allegra. So pretty and musical, but it sounds so strong as well. Allegra was around a month old and such a sweetheart to work with. I enjoyed patting her off to sleep and she slept well during her session - which is somewhat unusual for the babies I photograph!

Allegra’s mum Anna, decided to use one of the images from this session on her Christening invitations. It’s the one below, of her fast asleep sucking on her arm – so cute!
