Samantha Pearce Photographer

Samantha Pearce wanted a new look after 8 months off from photography. Sam is one of the most talented photographers I have the pleasure of knowing. She creates a bit of a magical story in every photo session and each image is her way of capturing that fairytale. I have been lucky enough to be on the subject-end of Sam’s camera and where some photographers may yell instructions like a drill sergeant, Sam’s way of finding the moments, not constructing them – is something I admire and aspire to.

Sam’s brief for this logo was something that was bright, golden, that was all about childhood and fun. When she left after the briefing session, I had the idea of using painty-childish handprints to make a ‘sun’. As I was trying different positions of the hands and fingers, I noticed the shape of the overlap was suggestive of a heart. So with a few deft tweaks, I made the heart shape more distinct and yet still kept it subtle. I like to think it is the little surprise you see in the logo after a while and it totally suits Sam’s emotive work as well as her passion for photography and all things family.

So without further ado, here it is – make sure to head on over to her website and blog to check out her work and make sure if you’re in Sydney to book a session!!!

Rebecca Knight Hair

Rebecca Knight is a local stylist who was looking to get back into the industry after a few years off with her kids.  Rebecca lost her mum to cancer 8 years ago and while her mum was undergoing chemo, Rebecca styled her wigs. She believes that while the wigs do boost confidence of the patients, they can still sometimes look ‘like wigs’ and a little bit of creative styling can make all the difference. Rebecca offers this free service to those undergoing chemo who have lost their hair – bring in your wigs and she will style it free of charge.

When I initially met Rebecca, the phrase that jumped into my head was ‘rock-star stylist’. She is funky, daring, bold and sassy – just the kind of thing you want in a stylist. When I created her identity, I was heavily influenced by Versace’s identity. The iconic style of the icon, the brand positioning all felt like they tied in well to the market Rebecca was aiming towards in the longer term. We’ve totally made it her ‘own’ though and I thought it would look great for merchandising and products further on down the track should she choose to go that way.

What a wonderful idea Bec, I hope this is the start of something truly amazing for you.

XISS Photography

James Boddington and I have been working on this project for some time now. He is a super-busy photographer, winging his way around (most recently to Vermont) photographing weddings. Though that is only part of the story, he is also an accomplished commercial and editorial photographer as well.

James wanted a new take on his old logo, just to freshen things up. We threw around words like quirky, unexpected, bold and unconventional and after a solid dialogue we arrived at this solution. James has such a clean look and feel to his site and work, the images do really speak for themselves, so the branding had to tie in with the photography discreetly.

Make sure to check out his blog, wedding site and commercial site. Yet ANOTHER amazingly talented photographer I have had the pleasure of working with – I truly do have the best job in the world!XISS-logo
