Teeny Tiny pettiskirts

Yesterday I got to photograph more gorgeous pettiskirts for Marcella Creations (website on the way). She is making Teeny Tiny Pettis  for newborns (sizes for the under-1′s as well) and two-tone skirts. All skirts are custom made, so you can choose your own colours and sizes for a personalised product.

Delivery time is less than a week – she sews super fast! Email her at msmoreno@bigpond.com until her website launches (very soon!)

Another invite

…for someone very special.

You may remember Jaylene, the smiley happy baby that I had the distinct pleasure of photographing for the Australian Breastfeeding Association. Jaylene and her mum Jo, are the faces of the Breastfeeding Helpline advertising campaign which you may remember from a previous blog entry.

.

.

Jaylene was 16 weeks when I photographed her back in January and she will be celebrating her first birthday very shortly! Jo asked me to design an invitation for Jaylene’s party and sent through a few photos of her toothy grin to use. Well I loved the cupcake from the previous invite I’d done and ‘borrowed’ the same basic idea and put it to good use for Jaylene.

Growing up far too fast!

It’s been a while since I’ve put up any personal posts. I’ve been rather busy with work. This weekend I decided to take a break, relax and do a bit of reading. I Also spent some quality time with the kids at the local library and managed to capture these.

This is Kyra’s regular serious face. She is just looking so grown up all of a sudden. She looks so much older than her 5 years.

As for Lia, she is trying to perfect the grumpy/serious look but can’t keep it up when I tease her. “Oh mum,” she giggles, “you twicked me!” She can never manage to completely hide that hint of mischief that seems to sparkle in her eyes.

Hyde Clothing 15% off winter clearance

I did some photos earlier this year for Hyde Clothing. Toni and her mum Marcia are a mother-daughter super-duo who make gorgeous sunhats for babies and kids. This year she extended her range to include cute little flared tops she calls ‘Angel Shirts’. Toni designs, block prints and stamps some of her fabric by hand! Such sweet shirts and patterns, I LOVE the green butterfly one!

Toni started using a couple of the images this week to promote her new end of winter clearance sale. You can score 15% off across the entire range of shirts and sunhats, just in time for spring – or great to stash away as stocking stuffers for Christmas!

Make sure to check out her site www.HydeClothing.com.au and keep an eye on this blog for their new marketing collateral to be released in the next week or so.

A few images from the session below.

Marcella Creations

Marcella has been sewing since she was a young girl, so when she recently finished up with her full-time employer, it was an obvious step for her to go back to her first love – sewing. While she does custom orders for weddings, christenings and other events, she is releasing a range of pettiskirts as well. These are the first few skirts out of her home studio in Bella Vista in Sydney that I have had the honour of photographing for her website (currently under construction). You may recognise some of the models as my kids who were on loan for the day to help show off the skirts. The gorgeous red-headed child is Marcella’s gorgeous grandchild, Bethany – who I chased around with my camera, but didn’t get as  many as I would have liked of her because she was not impressed with the whole idea!

Marcella will be taking custom orders – so do consider supporting an Australian small business for your next pettiskirt purchase. Until her website launches, you can email her at msmoreno@bigpond.com.

ETA: I received this message from Marcella after this post went up:

Awesome pictures Netra – Thanks!! You are a true professional… not that I doubted for a minute…you bring tears to my eyes!!

LOOOOVE your work… x x x x x x

Micah

I’ve known Jo & Chris since 2004 when I was expecting Kyra and they were expecting their first son, Zack. Zack was born a very sick little boy and when he was 9 months old, lost his long and difficult battle and passed away. It was so tragic, he’d fought so hard and smiled his cheeky golden smile through it all. We attended Zack’s funeral and witnessed their agony and grief which was heartwrenching. What struck me was how tiny the white coffin was and how sweet and innocent Zack’s stuffed elephant looked next to all the flowers.

Jo and Chris have since had the cherubic Caitlyn (look at those adorable angelic curls!) and more recently welcomed their second son, Micah into the world. I was very honoured when they asked me to capture a family portrait of them. Caitie was very determined NOT to have her photo taken, and so it made for a high-energy session that involved swatting at balloons and then snapping photos with one hand. We went through a fair few balloons, a few crocodile tears, lots of cajoling and bribery! Micah was adorable, slept a little for me and we managed to capture a couple of images with Zack’s elephant as well.

Arabian Nights

She finally relented and allowed me to have a play today with the galabeya. I am amazed sometimes that she is my daughter. I see her and watch her antics every day – but when I capture her on camera she looks so different, so much older.

Galabeya Lia

A very close friend of mine was recently in Egypt and thoughtfully brought back two galabeyas (traditional Bedouin outfits) for my girls. They were ecstatic! Both got dressed up immediately, wrapped the shawls around themselves and spent an entertaining hour trying to belly dance. Unfortunately with no hips to hold the shawls up, they spent more time puddled around their feet than up around their middles. For some unknown reason Kyra didn’t want to have her photo taken so I only managed to snap a few of Lia.

(The bruise on the side of her nose is from colliding with the arm of the sofa while she and Kyra were swinging each other around pretending to be Lalita and Will Darcy from Bride & Prejudice)

Quinn

How lucky am I to photograph such gorgeous babies and children?!  Quinn was an absolute dream! At just 8 weeks old, he was such a content baby. He slept right through the second half of the session and we managed to get some shots of him asleep – in the middle of it all, he opened his eyes and stared right at me – and here it is. My favourite from the day…

His sister Lucelle was such an animated and chatty little girl. She did everything I asked of her and was simply delightful to photograph. You can just imagine the conversation in this one…

Petti skirt princess

When Sam was here this week, she dropped off her gorgeous red Petti skirt for me to borrow. I couldn’t resist having a bit of a play with it (and Lia) in the back yard. I has also recently bought a white wicker basket on wheels and Lia was all too keen to climb in and ham it up for the camera!

I love the saggy baggy stockings here!
